We purchase used road milling picks and milling teeth – complete tools with steel bodies as well as separated carbide tips. The same material is commonly described as asphalt milling teeth, cold planer teeth, road planing bits, road construction picks or round-shank picks.
Round-shank picks used on road milling machines, stabilizers and similar equipment have a steel body and carbide tip. Manufacturers such as Wirtgen or Kennametal describe the carbide tip as the key cutting and wear component. From a recycling perspective, the valuable carbide therefore needs to be separated from the steel mass.
For complete bits we can offer two modes: direct purchase as complete pieces, or processing in which the carbide part is separated from the steel carrier and, if necessary, cleaned of braze residues or other contaminants.
The total weight of the bits is not the same as the carbide weight. For larger stocks it therefore makes sense to assess the bit type, construction and actual proportion of carbide. This enables a more transparent offer than a flat price based on mixed steel weight.
Road milling bits come in many sizes and constructions. Manufacturers use different shank diameters, steel-body geometries and carbide-tip weights depending on the application. Therefore the carbide quantity cannot be determined automatically from the total mixture weight.
For larger jobs it is more useful to track the yield of a specific type or mixture. After removing the steel body, the carbide fraction can be further cleaned and prepared separately for the recycling chain.

A typical bit has a steel body and carbide working tip. When purchasing, total weight is therefore not treated as pure carbide. Construction, bit type, wear and actual WC-Co proportion are decisive.
A similar principle applies to some earth-cutting and mining picks. Larger or atypical batches are therefore assessed according to their specific design.
